Behind this project is the team of Studio Deloryan, the creators of the realistic online horse-breeding game Horse Reality.

The studio’s founder, Deloryan Hommers, started developing Horse Reality when she no longer had the money or time to devote to horses. Searching for a horse game to fill that hole just a little, she found only glitter, rainbows, and unicorns. With none of them capturing what she truly loved about horses. So, she decided to make her own.

During that journey, she came across the domain name HorseReality.com and became intrigued by the idea of creating a realistic game that combined genetics, strategy, and accurate horse imagery. A game where players could breed for colors and stats with purpose.

Over the years of building the game, Deloryan worked closely with scientists and equine genetics experts to design an authentic genetic system. What began as a small solo project grew into a game studio and a global community that values realism, learning, and curiosity.

Through that process, our fascination with horse color genetics only deepened. Players often asked questions like:

“My foal turned white… Is that a bug?!”
“Why did two bay parents produce a black foal?”

We soon realized that many of these questions went far beyond the game itself, they were about real genetics. That’s where Equine Colors comes in.

This website exists to explain the science behind every shade, pattern, and marking in a clear and simple way. Each article is written by, or together with, our in-house researcher to ensure that every explanation is both accurate and easy to follow.

Whether you’re a breeder curious about inheritance, an artist hoping to paint realistic coats, or a Horse Reality player eager to understand the genetics behind your foals, you’ll find straightforward and engaging guides here that connect science with creativity.

At Equine Colors, we aim to bridge the gap between science, art, and gameplay. We believe genetics doesn’t have to be complicated — learning about it can actually be fun!

So dive in.
Explore the genes that shape every horse’s appearance.
And see how the same principles influence the horses you breed in Horse Reality.
